MacCarthy & Sons: A Natural Partnership

Our search led us to MacCarthy & Sons, a fifth-generation family-run boxmaking business based in London’s historic docklands.

Established in 1880 and now led by James MacCarthy, the company blends innovation with heritage craftsmanship. Remarkably, some machinery still in use today dates back to 1908—yet much of the production process remains proudly hand-finished by skilled artisans, many of whom have decades of experience.

This dedication to craft ensures that each Plowden & Fallow box is created with care, precision, and authenticity.
